DENG Yaping’s journey of cross-disciplinary integration continues to shine in the rest of her life!

In the splendid history of Chinese sports, women’s power has never been absent. With women’s extraordinary achievements and profound influence on sports, they have become benchmarks in the field. Through their outstanding performances and relentless efforts, they have shaped the paradigm of sports and become indelible legends. BEYOND Expo is honored to announce that DENG Yaping, a table tennis legend, and member of the International Olympic Committee, will attend the SheTech Summit at BEYOND Expo 2024. She will share her insights with global audiences on May 23 at Stage D of The Venetian Macao Cotai Expo, dedicating wisdom to advancing social development through female empowerment.

DENG Yaping is an Olympic champion and table tennis grand slam winner. Over her 14-year athletic career, she won a total of 18 world championships and 4 Olympic gold medals. She held the world No. 1 ranking in table tennis for 8 years, making her the longest-reigning female athlete ranked “world No. 1” in table tennis history. She is internationally recognized as the first-generation queen of table tennis.

After her retirement, she obtained her bachelor’s degree from Tsinghua University, master’s degree from the University of Nottingham and doctorate from the University of Cambridge. From 1997 to 2010, DENG Yaping served as a member of the International Olympic Committee’s athletes commission, sports and environment commission and ethics commission. DENG Yaping, as the only Chinese athlete representative, participated in the bidding for the 1993 and 2001 Beijing Olympics and became the ambassador for Beijing’s Olympic bid. From domestic to international arenas, from athlete to student, and then to a leading figure in Chinese sports, DENG Yaping has completed one magnificent transformation after another in her life.

As an outstanding woman in Chinese sports history, DENG Yaping has not only achieved brilliant success in the field of table tennis but also reflects the resilience and tenacity of women. She is a perfect embodiment of women power. After retiring, DENG Yaping continued to engage in sports-related activities, actively promoting mass sports and participating in various sports charity events. In December 2016, DENG Yaping and the government of Henan Province jointly launched China’s first sports industry investment fund named after a famous athlete, aiming to promote sports development and inject more positive energy into the table tennis industry. Whether in the arena of sports competition or in the journey of exploring innovation and self-breakthroughs, DENG Yaping’s story has inspired countless women to bravely pursue their dreams, demonstrating her style and influence as a female leader.

As one of Asia’s most influential technology events, BEYOND Expo will be held grandly from May 22-25 at The Venetian Macao Cotai Expo, Macao. The SheTech Summit, as the highlight of this event, aims to gather global female leaders to discuss the opportunities and challenges for women in the world, explore female potential, achieve gender equality and social responsibility through technological innovation, and provide an important platform for realizing women’s self-worth and developing new female forces which coincides with DENG Yaping’s vision.
