As a leading voice in open-source AI and ecosystem development, Matt brings extensive experience in shaping foundational technologies and advancing collaborative innovation across the global AI landscape.
Matt White is a technologist, researcher, and ecosystem builder focused on making open-source AI production-grade, trustworthy, and scalable. He currently serves as Global CTO of AI at the Linux Foundation, where he leads technical strategy and ecosystem initiatives designed to strengthen shared infrastructure and accelerate open collaboration across the AI stack.
In addition, he holds dual leadership positions as CTO of the PyTorch Foundation and the Agentic AI Foundation. In these roles, he works closely with global developers, enterprises, and research communities to support the growth of open-source AI systems and ensure the scalability and sustainability of foundational technologies.
Matt is also the leader of the Generative AI Commons, an initiative that convenes industry stakeholders and open-source communities to advance practical collaboration across the full AI lifecycle. He is the first author of the Model Openness Framework, which introduces a structured methodology for evaluating model openness across the AI supply chain, and the architect of the OpenMDW license, a purpose-built open-source license designed for AI models and their associated artifacts.
